The Ozil Goal
TL;DR
The Ozil goal meme is an AI video of Mesut Özil's late winner for Arsenal at Ludogorets on November 1, 2016, scored by someone unexpected: the person posting, a grandmother, a cartoon character or a dog. Past the keeper, two defenders sliding by, a slow tap into the empty net. It spread on TikTok and Reels in October 2026.

The Ozil goal meme is a 15-second AI clip of Mesut Özil's 2016 goal at Ludogorets, scored by someone else: the person posting, a friend in a work shirt, a dog. The keeper comes out, the ball goes over him, two defenders slide past, and the scorer taps it in at walking pace. The move is always the same. Who's doing it is the joke.
Where it came from
The goal is real. On November 1, 2016 Arsenal were 2-0 down at Ludogorets inside 15 minutes, drew level before half-time and won it three minutes from the end, when Mohamed Elneny played Özil through. ITV's report describes him rounding the keeper and two defenders with "great composure" before slotting home. A decade later the move came back as an AI template.
Özil scores three minutes from time as Arsenal come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Ludogorets in Sofia and reach the Champions League last 16.
AI recreations spread on TikTok and Instagram, with Uncle Phil, Michael Scott, SpongeBob, Shrek and a T-Rex as the scorer. Özil shares an AI version of himself as he looks today.

Why the format works
Viewers know the move within two seconds. The keeper rushes out and the chip goes over him almost straight away, so everyone can see where it's heading.
Then it slows down. After the chest control the clip nearly stops while two defenders slide in, one after the other, and the scorer just lets them go by. In the trend versions we studied, the sound drops at that moment and comes back loud when the first defender misses. That's the bit people rewatch.
The calmer and more out of place the scorer looks, the better it lands. At fifteen seconds with a quiet finish, it also loops well.
The most-liked versions
The versions that travelled furthest don't use people at all: they swap in cartoon and game characters. These four are from TikTok creator @r7538701fal; the Minecraft villager had passed 530,000 likes by 18 October 2026.

Cartoon and anime versions from your photo
You can't borrow Mario, but you can get the same look with your own face. Under Style, the generator has three drawn options besides Real: Blocky, 3D cartoon and Anime. Each one redraws the scorer as an original character and keeps the hair, skin tone and clothes from the photo.

Versions to try
You, in your own clothes
Pick Keep my look in the generator and the scorer plays in whatever the photo shows. An office shirt, a winter coat or a hoodie is funnier than a kit. Use a full-body photo if you have one.

Friends
There's only one scorer, so make one video per friend, each from their own photo and with their permission. Post them as a series, or cut them into one "who did it better" clip.

Couples
Make one each and post them side by side or back to back. Or make only your partner's and post your reaction to it.
Pets
Dogs and cats play the move standing upright and keep their own look. Few pet versions are out there yet, so they get noticed. More in the Ozil goal AI pet guide.

In a football kit
Football kit puts the scorer in a plain kit with no club badge. It reads more like real football and less like a joke.
Posting tips for TikTok and Reels
- Export in 9:16. It fits TikTok, Reels and Shorts without cropping; 1:1 is for the Instagram feed, 16:9 for YouTube.
- Show the original photo for a second before the goal, so people get the before and after.
- Use the keeper's dive as the cover. It's the frame people recognise.
- The generator lays the trend music over the film by default. Pick No music if you'd rather add a sound in the app.
- Put captions near the top. Buttons and the post text cover the bottom and the right edge.
- Tag the people in it and say who's scoring.
- Put #ozilai and "Ozil goal" or "Ozil AI" in the caption; those are the words people search for.
- Turn on the platform's AI-generated label, or say it in the caption.
Who you can put in it
Only people who said yes. No photos of children, celebrities, footballers or other public figures; our terms don't allow them. The clip is funny because it's you, or someone you know, taking the shot.

FAQ
What is the Ozil goal meme?
A short AI video in which someone unexpected, often the person posting, a friend or a pet, scores Mesut Özil's 2016 goal for Arsenal at Ludogorets: a chip over the keeper, two defenders sliding past and a slow tap into the empty net.
Can I make a cartoon version like the Minecraft one?
Yes, from your own photo. Pick Blocky, 3D cartoon or Anime under Style in the generator. The scorer becomes an original drawn character with the hair, skin tone and clothes from your photo, not an existing game or cartoon character.
Should I label the video as AI?
Yes. Use the platform's AI-generated label or say so in the caption. It is fan content made with AI-made players, not real match footage.
